The Slovenian Homeopathic Society was established in 1992 to research and promote the development of homeopathy as a branch of medical science in Slovenia. Full membership is awarded only to physicians, dentists and pharmacists who express interest in homeopathy and would like to deepen and further their knowledge on homeopathic way of treatment.

Since the beginning the Slovenian Homeopathic Society is providing education and training for physicians, dentists and pharmacists (until 2007 also for veterinarians) in compliance with the ECH Medical Homeopathic Education Standards. The three-year postgraduate education programme of the Slovenian Homeopathic Society is conducted in the form of long-weekend seminars with theoretical and practical part. Our trainers are well known homeopathic medical doctors from Austria, Germany, Slovenia and other European countries. At the conclusion of a three-year programme participants have to pass the final exam in order to receive a certificate of qualification for homeopathic treatment (physicians and dentists) and homeopathic counselling (pharmacists). In 2006 our teaching programme and examinations of the teaching have been accredited by the ECH and in 2007 first European Diplomas for Homeopathy were given to Slovenian medical doctors.

We are still striving for the official recognition of the certificate as the official status of homeopathy in Slovenia has not been regulated yet. In Slovenia, it is not prohibited by law to practice homeopathy, but at the same time it is not specifically allowed or regulated by any parts of national legislation. As a physician one can practice homeopathy, but he or she will either loose or never get his or her license to practice conventional medicine.

The Slovenian Homeopathic Society has also other aims:

  • to obtain the official status of homeopathy in Slovenia;
  • to achieve the recognition of homeopathy also by the conventional medicine;
  • to broaden and spread the knowledge about homeopathy among Slovenian citizens;
  • to achieve recognition of homeopathy as an efficient, helpful and effective system of medical treatment;
  • to achieve the highest possible standards of homeopathy in Slovenia and to have an adequate number of well educated and trained homeopathic medical doctors and dentists;
  • to integrate homeopathy in the medical undergraduate or postgraduate curriculum as an optional or compulsory course.

The Slovenian Homeopathic Society is an institutional member of the Liga Medicorum Homeopathica Internationalis (LMHI) and the European Committee for Homoeopathy (ECH).
